Exzentrische Hermeneutik und die Artikulation von Geschichte im kolonialen Klangarchiv

In meinem Beitrag beschäftige ich mich mit einem Gespenst der Kolonialität, das sich offenbart, wenn es um die Autorität der Subjekte des Archivs geht, die als Autor*innen historischer Bedeutung auftreten. Ich verorte meine Untersuchung in der Erforschung von Vermächtnissen kolonialer Tonarchive und argumentiere für eine Überschreitung vorherrschender Konzeptionen des Zuhörens, indem Äußerungen und Narrative vom kolonialen Rand ernst genommen werden. Ich argumentiere, dass das Nachdenken über die inter-materiellen Schwingungen und Vibrationen von Tonaufnahmen aus der International Library for African Music (ILAM) eine ex-zentrische Hermeneutik als Methode einer dekolonialen Historiographie darstellt, die die koloniale Verflachung archivierter Tonaufnahmen herausfordert.

Ex-Centric Hermeneutics and Enunciating History in the Colonial Sound Archive 

In this article, I consider a spectre of coloniality which lingers around the recognition of the authority of subjects of the archive as the authors of historical meaning. In doing so, I situate this research in scholarship concerned with the legacies of colonial sound archives and argue for a move beyond the prevalent methodology of listening to taking seriously enunciation from the colonial margin. I argue that thinking about the inter-material vibrational force of a recording from the International Library for African Music can engender a form of ex-centric hermeneutics as a mode of decolonial historiographical interpretation that challenges the colonial thinning out of the sound recording first engendered by the recording practices used to construct the colonial sound archive.
